APPEAL !!!
We are addressing you today, in an attempt to salvage a tragic situation.
On January 3, 2007, minutes before the crew arrived on the set of Darko Bajic’s film,
On the Beautiful Blue Danube, its main location, a cruise ship, along with the entire set design, went up in flames,
with the cause still under police investigation.
This film, which is the first Serbian production to be shot in the English language, which features an internationally
award winning cast and crew, is half-way to completion. However, with the devastation of the costs of the damages
caused to the ship and everything that was lost in the fire, including a portion of the film equipment, this film cannot
be completed without additional funding.
Due to a set of circumstances, the film shoot had to begin on November 15,2006 in order to retain funding given my
the Ministry of Culture and the Film Fund in Serbia. This cruise ship, was the only existing ship in Serbia, and in areas
around, that could fit the needs of the project. This ship is one of a kind, with an incredible history spanning close to
100 years. Due to the fact that the cruise ship could not get a boating license, no insurance company was willing or
able to insure the boat.
The story takes place on a cruise ship, travelling from Vienna to Belgrade, where people from different nations,
religions, and social statuses, meet. Their mutual lack of communication culminates into absurd situations colored
with dark humour. This film is a story of modern slavery in the global society and the trafficking of people.
In our desire to achieve the greatest results, this movie is shot on Super 35
(ARRI 535 ), on KODAK Vision 2, and uses the services of the TECHNICOLOR Laboratory in Los Angeles. We are
certain that this film has the potential to gain great interest from the global cinema audience.
If you are able to help the completion of this project, the possibilities are:
-Donation
-Sponsorship
-Partnership / Co-Production
-Upfront purchase of distribution rights
We appeal to you and the international film community to support the completion of this project, which is the first
attempt to create an international film, after all the political changes and finally, the restoration of democracy in
Serbia.
